I’m really looking forward to the Eastercon weekend – always a great chance to catch up with folk and meet new friends, and this year’s promises to be good one. In addition, I’m launching three books I’m really proud of through my own NewCon Press, plus the anthology Solaris Rising 2, and my second short story collection, Growing Pains (PS Publishing) is set to be unveiled. I’ve now received my schedule for the weekend and it’s nice and varied – two book launches, one reading, one ‘meet and greet’ signing event, one panel as participant and one as moderator. Should be fun!
The reading will be something from Growing Pains, launched on the Friday, though I haven’t decided what yet. My only real concern is how I’m going to organise all the books for the NewCon Press launch (and Solaris Rising 2, which hasn’t made it onto the programme listing as yet) when I’m tied up with programme items for the two hours immediately beforehand, but I’m sure it will all work out.
Apart from the times specified below, you’re likely to find me in the dealers room, at the NewCon Press table (I’ve got a huge new banner, so you shouldn’t miss me), and also, perhaps… just maybe… in the bar from time to time (ahem). Feel free to come over and say hello, or heckle, or throw peanuts… whatever.
Friday 4pm Boardroom ”Small Press Stories” Panellist
Friday 5pm Conservatory ”PS Publishing launch” Participant
Friday 6pm Conservatory ”Newcon Press launch” Organiser
I’ll be sharing the stage for the PS launch with such distinguished fellow scribes as Stephen Baxter, Eric Brown, Paul J McAuley, and Lavie Tidhar, while the NewCon Press/Solaris launch will feature Nina Allan, Chris Beckett, Mercurio D Rivera, Paul Cornell, Kim Lakin-Smith, Martin Sketchley, Adrian Tchaikovsky, and Neil Williamson. What fine company I shall be keeping!
Saturday 11am Conservatory ”Genre Get-Together: Science Fiction” Participant
Saturday 1pm Hawthorn ”Author Readings: Ira Nayman and Ian Whates” Speaker
I’ve never met Ira, so I’m looking forward to doing so and to hearing her read.
Sunday 1pm Main ”Cityscapes” Moderator
Sunday 7pm Main ”BSFA Awards / LonCon 3 Update” Participant
The Cityscapes panel should be fun: I’ll be moderating one of the convention’s Guests of Honour, US author Walter Jon Williams (whom I’ve conversed with via email but never met before), all-round fabulous lady Jaine Fenn (moderate Jaine? Fat chance) and CE Murphy, another author new to me.
I’ve a feeling this is going to be a great weekend, and I can’t wait for it to start.
